THE STANDINGS RESHUFFLED AT DIJON-PRENOIS

From 11 to 13 September 2026, the Dijon-Prenois Circuit hosted the fourth round of the Formula Classic Interseries as part of the Dijon Motors Cup. With fifteen F3 drivers and twelve in F2, the Burgundy event saw Alexander Weiss take both F3 victories, while Mark Charteris and Oliver Chapman shared the F2 wins.

In F2 Classic – Category 1 (2000 cm³), Laurent Vallery-Masson (March 77B) takes the championship lead thanks to his third- and second-place finishes. The Frenchman has 406 points, or 367 after dropped scores, ahead of Oliver Chapman (March 782), second and then victorious at Dijon, with 335 points. James Lay (March 762), unclassified in both races despite setting both fastest race laps, drops to third with 328 points, of which 327 count. Gianluigi Candiani follows on 290 points, ahead of Mark Charteris on 280 and Wolfgang Kaufmann on 264.

In Category 2 (1600 cm³), Marc Sydow (Lotus 69) strengthens his lead with 424 points, ahead of Paul Bason (March 712) on 197 and Jeremy Caine (March 712) on 75. The only driver in the category at Dijon, the German wins both races.

In Category 3 (Atlantic), Martin Wood (March 73B) retains the lead with 495 points, or 494 after dropped scores. Second in his category on Saturday and victorious on Sunday, he leads Stefano Rosina (Chevron B34), who has 359 points. Mark Goodyear (March 79B), winner of the first race before retiring from the second, sits third with 148 points.

Finally, in F3 Classic, Alexander Weiss (Ralt RT3) takes the championship lead after claiming pole position and both victories. The Dane increases his total to 513 points, of which 508 count, ahead of Davide Leone (March 783) on 485 points, or 430 after dropped scores. Éric Martin (Martini MK39) remains third with 420 points, of which 370 count, but Frédéric Lajoux (March 793) closes in with 414 points, of which 368 count. Just two points therefore separate the pair after dropped scores. Pietro Vergnano completes the top five with 356 points, of which 314 count, ahead of Laurent Vallery-Masson on 256 points.

The counting points are the totals after dropping the worst result, as shown in the official standings following Dijon.

1. F3 Classic INTERSERIES : QUALIFYING

Weiss takes pole ahead of Leone

On Friday, Alexander Weiss sets the pace in his Ralt RT3 Alfa with a fastest lap of 1:21.608 on his sixth attempt. Davide Leone stays close in his March 783 Toyota: his time of 1:21.798 puts him just 0.190 seconds behind the Dane.

Pietro Vergnano completes the top three in 1:22.191, ahead of Frédéric Lajoux, fourth in 1:22.256. Éric Martin takes fifth in 1:22.409. The top five are covered by just 0.801 seconds. Laurent Vallery-Masson takes sixth, ahead of Pietro Tenconi, Bernard Lacour, Marco Coppini and Bruno Ferrari.

Jean-Pierre Eynard-Machet, Bruno Mottez, Laurent Bayers and Louis Hanjoul follow. All of Pierre Merche’s lap times are deleted for technical non-compliance, with the car required to comply before the first race. The Belgian is placed last on the grid.

2. F2 Classic INTERSERIES : QUALIFYING

Wrigley takes pole by 146 thousandths

Matthew Wrigley claims pole position in his March 782 with a fastest lap of 1:14.753 on his seventh attempt. James Lay, in a March 762, is just 0.146 seconds behind with a time of 1:14.899. Mark Charteris completes the top three in 1:15.532, 0.779 seconds off the benchmark.

Laurent Vallery-Masson puts his March 77B fourth in 1:17.670, ahead of Geoffroy Rivet in a Martini MK19/22 and Oliver Chapman in a March 782. Gianluigi Candiani takes seventh in his Chevron B42.

In Category 2, Marc Sydow, the sole entrant in his 1600 cm³ Lotus 69, sets a fastest lap of 1:24.503. He takes twelfth overall, behind Patrick Ferrier.

In Category 3, Mark Goodyear sets the fastest time of 1:20.399, earning eighth overall. He leads the other two Formula Atlantic cars, driven by Martin Wood and Stefano Rosina.

3. F3 Classic INTERSERIES : RACE 1

Weiss holds off Lajoux’s charge

On Saturday, Alexander Weiss retains the lead on the opening lap ahead of Davide Leone. Frédéric Lajoux gains a place to move into third, while Éric Martin climbs to fourth. Pietro Vergnano drops to fifth, ahead of Laurent Vallery-Masson.

The leading trio remain close during the first part of the race. On lap 11, Lajoux overtakes Leone and sets off after Weiss. The March 793 driver keeps the pressure on until the finish and sets the fastest race lap of 1:22.278 on lap 16.

Weiss nevertheless retains first place and wins after leading all 17 laps. Lajoux finishes 1.957 seconds behind, ahead of Leone, third at 8.916 seconds, including a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits.

Éric Martin finishes fourth. Behind him, Pietro Vergnano has Laurent Vallery-Masson close behind all the way to the finish: just 0.182 seconds separate the pair in fifth and sixth. Pietro Tenconi holds off Marco Coppini’s charge to retain seventh by 0.467 seconds.

Starting last, Pierre Merche reaches eighth by lap six before losing a place to Coppini on lap ten. He finishes ninth ahead of Jean-Pierre Eynard-Machet. Laurent Bayers takes eleventh after trading places with Bruno Ferrari several times late in the race. Bruno Mottez and Bernard Lacour follow, while Louis Hanjoul completes the results with thirteen laps after a pit stop on lap four.

4. F2 Classic INTERSERIES : RACE 1

Charteris wins a race full of twists

Matthew Wrigley retains the lead ahead of James Lay. Laurent Vallery-Masson gains a place on the opening lap to move into third, but
Mark Charteris retakes the position on lap two. Oliver Chapman also passes the Frenchman to move into fourth.

Wrigley leads the first six laps, with Lay on his tail, before his race comes to an end. Lay then takes the lead on lap seven. Having set the fastest lap of 1:15.936 on lap five, the Briton also retires after completing nine laps. Charteris inherits the lead on lap ten.

Behind him, Geoffroy Rivet has gradually moved towards the front. Sixth early in the race, he passes Vallery-Masson on lap five and Chapman on the next lap. The two leaders’ retirements then promote him to second.

The podium battle changes again in the closing laps. Rivet drops to fourth on lap fifteen and completes no further laps. He is nevertheless classified tenth with fifteen laps completed. Vallery-Masson briefly regains second before Chapman passes him on lap 16.

Chapman then closes the gap to Charteris and catches him in the final laps. The leader holds on until the chequered flag and wins after 18 laps, finishing just 0.626 seconds ahead of his compatriot. Laurent Vallery-Masson completes the podium at 16.605 seconds, ahead of Gianluigi Candiani.

In Category 2, Marc Sydow finishes ninth overall with seventeen laps completed, behind Patrick Ferrier, and wins his category.

In Category 3, Mark Goodyear passes Martin Wood on lap nine and takes victory. Fifth overall, he leads Wood and Stefano Rosina, sixth and seventh.

5. F2 Classic INTERSERIES : RACE 2

Chapman prevails and Vallery-Masson delivers again

Mark Charteris and Oliver Chapman occupy the front row ahead of Laurent Vallery-Masson and Gianluigi Candiani. Geoffroy Rivet does not start and Matthew Wrigley completes no laps. Scheduled to start at the back of the grid, James Lay is
recorded in the lead on the opening lap, but receives a drive-through penalty for failing to follow the starting procedure.

Lay leads the first four laps and sets the fastest lap of 1:16.210 on lap three. Charteris then leads laps five and six. The timing records show Lay back in the lead on lap seven, during which he returns to the pits. His race ends at this point, as does Charteris’s. Mark Goodyear has already retired after two laps.

These retirements reshuffle the order at the front. Laurent Vallery-Masson takes the lead on lap eight and stays ahead for two laps, with Oliver Chapman behind him. The Briton finally moves ahead on lap ten, then gradually extends his lead.

Chapman sets his personal best lap of 1:18.249 on lap eleven and retains first place until the chequered flag. After missing victory by less than a second the previous day, he wins this time after 18 laps, finishing 6.334 seconds ahead of Vallery-Masson. The Frenchman claims his second podium of the weekend. Gianluigi Candiani, third at 16.399 seconds, also improves on his Saturday result.

Behind them, Patrick Ferrier climbs to fourth on lap ten. Given a drive-through penalty for overtaking under yellow flags, the Ralt RT1 driver returns to the pits on lap fourteen and ultimately finishes seventh, one lap down.

In Category 3, Martin Wood and Stefano Rosina battle for victory. Rosina moves ahead on lap thirteen, but Wood retakes the lead on the following lap. The Briton finishes fourth overall and first among the Formula Atlantic cars, 5.347 seconds ahead of Rosina.

In Category 2, Marc Sydow wins again in his Lotus 69. He finishes sixth overall and completes all eighteen laps, ahead of Ferrier, the last of the seven classified drivers.

6. F3 Classic INTERSERIES : RACE 2

Alexander Weiss delivers again to complete the double

On Sunday, Alexander Weiss lines up on pole again alongside Frédéric Lajoux. Davide Leone and Éric Martin occupy the second row. Weiss retains the lead on the opening lap, while Leone gains a place and Martin moves into third. Lajoux drops to fourth but retakes the position from Martin on lap two.

The order of the leading trio remains unchanged. Weiss gradually extends his lead and sets the fastest lap of 1:22.938 on lap seven. Having once again led all 17 laps, he wins by 12.672 seconds over Leone. Lajoux completes the podium at 14.903 seconds, 2.231 seconds behind the Italian.

Éric Martin claims another fourth place ahead of Pietro Vergnano and Laurent Vallery-Masson. Pietro Tenconi retains seventh, while Pierre Merche improves by one position on Saturday to finish eighth, the last driver on the same lap as the winner.

Further back in the field, Marco Coppini has a difficult start to the race. Eighth on the opening lap, he drops to fifteenth after completing lap two in 1:47.522. He then works his way back up to finish ninth.

Bernard Lacour, starting fourteenth, reaches ninth by lap six. He holds the position until lap fourteen, before dropping behind Coppini and Laurent Bayers on the following lap. Bayers thus completes the top ten ahead of Lacour, Jean-Pierre Eynard-Machet, Bruno Ferrari, Bruno Mottez and Louis Hanjoul. All fifteen drivers appear in the final classification.
